Small Business
Becoming small business owners while still balancing our everyday careers has been quite the adventure. Before we dive into that part of the story, let us start with who we are.
If you are reading this, welcome. We are so glad you are here and that you are joining us on this journey.
Behind D&L Vinyl & Laser are the owners, Lisa and Dennis. Dennis is a machinist and CMM programmer by trade, while Lisa is a nurse working in a hospital setting. We have been together since December 27, 2009. We each came into our relationship with one child, both boys, and in 2011 we welcomed our youngest together. Yes, it truly is a his, hers, and ours family.
We were married in June of 2012.
Dennis grew up in the Pacific Northwest in Washington, while Lisa grew up in Northwest Indiana. Together, we decided to move to Iowa for a fresh start. It was not easy at first, but small-town life suits us well, and we would not trade it.
Dennis has always loved making things. From 3D printing to laser work, he enjoys creating items that are sometimes practical and sometimes simply fun or decorative. Lisa loves designing and bringing ideas to life on shirts, cups, signs, and more. Dennis also designs and is the mind behind the website, while Lisa occasionally slacks, also known as naps.
We started this business because we wanted our customers to know there are real people behind the products. We truly enjoy connecting with those who shop with us, especially when they reach out about custom designs, seasonal creations, or questions along the way. Those connections are what make this experience meaningful to us.
Looking ahead, we hope to continue growing our website and, eventually, use our work to help support charitable causes. This is something we are both very passionate about, and we look forward to sharing more when the time is right.
Are we perfect? Not even close. But we do our best every single day.
Our goal is to update this space once or twice a month with what we have been creating and what excites us next. In 2026, we plan to participate in a few craft shows and collaborate with a local, up-and-coming podcaster. More details to come.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. If you ever have questions or ideas, please do not hesitate to reach out. We would love to hear from you.
With much love,
~Lisa & Dennis
